My mother at sixty-six: a reflection on Age and Love
When the poet Kamal Das realized that her mother was approaching her sixty-sixth birthday, she was unable to change anything for her mother's ageing.
Her mother was very young and she was an energetic person when she was young. But time passes so quickly that she is too old and cannot move her body properly. She needs time to recover from mental and physical stress. Her mother forgets things nowadays, but she did not forget that when she was young. Everything has changed for her, only one thing has remained the same (inexhaustible love and admirable devotion to her family)
It is said that when time flows out of a person's life and he or she becomes especially aware of human mortality.
As our age passes, we become more aware of our time, which is not enough in each human life cycle, so we need to invest good time with the people we love.
For the poet's mother, being aware of time reminds her of her family, and she wants to spend every moment of her remaining life beautifully.
When Kamal Das was a child. She did not realize the contribution and sacrifice her mother made for the poet's family.
She worked long hours to provide for us, gave up her interests and hobbies to take care of our needs, and always put us first.
Mother worked for her family to provide food and necessities. As Kamala Das, the poet, grew older, she realized her age. She learned about her mother's sacrifice and what she had given to the family.
Although her mother has grown older, she still loves the poet (Kamala Das) and her family and maintains her loving attitude toward them. When the poet needs support and love, her mother listens to her and gives her comfort, advice, and love.
She is grateful to her mother for giving her uncompromising and constant love.
When the poet thinks about her ageing in the future, she also wishes to be as elegant as her mother used to be. She also wishes to be like her mother when she grows older in terms of compassion and kindness. The love of the poet's family will be her first choice in her future life.
"Love and compassion are the basic elements of life," this is the lesson she learned from her mother. She has learned this lesson from her mother all her life; through her mother's ageing process. Love is the most beautiful feeling in the world, and it is enough for everyone to make their life joyful.
